Payment methods
From March 9, 2026, you can only pay for tickets, baggage, and extra services at Schiphol Airport with a debit or credit card. Cash payments will no longer be accepted at our counters or ticket offices.
Secure and confidential payment
When you pay on KLM.com, your payment details are encrypted and sent via a secure connection. The encryption of information transmitted online depends on the browser used and meets the highest standards.
Some transactions are processed through our payment partners, Worldline and Adyen. They process online payments and payment information on our behalf. Your payment details are only sent to Worldline or Adyen via a secure connection. Your data are never disclosed or forwarded to third parties or used for commercial purposes.
Available payment methods
We offer various payment methods, depending on your country, the time of your booking, and whether you book on KLM.com or the KLM app.
We accept American Express, AIR FRANCE KLM – AMERICAN EXPRESS, Diners Club, Discover, JCB (Japan Credit Bureau), Mastercard, Visa, and UATP/AirPlus.
- A payment surcharge may apply.
- Some cards require you to use 3DSecure payment authentication.
What is 3D Secure payment?
Card owner authentication 3DS is a feature that protects your online transactions. When you make a purchase on our website or app, you may be prompted to authenticate using the method provided by your bank. This authentication verifies that you are the rightful owner of the payment card being used and helps prevent unauthorized transactions. In short, it ensures that your online shopping experience is safe and secure.
Payment reservation
When paying with a credit card, your bank will instantly block the amount needed for your purchase in your bank account. Your account will officially be charged as soon as we finalise your payment. This may take up to 30 days.
When booking several tickets at once, some banks release only part of the reserved amount when the amount due is actually paid. This means that another part of the amount remains blocked until the authorisation expires. Unfortunately, this procedure is outside our control. We advise contacting your bank to request the release of the reserved amount in full.
You can book your ticket online and pay in up to 4 interest-free installments using your credit card.
When booking online, select credit card as your payment method and enter your card details. Then, select Brazil as your country or region and the number of desired instalments (1, 2, 3 or 4). The total amount due will be split equally per the number of instalments chosen, in BRL and at the current exchange rate.
You can pay in installments:
- If your credit card was issued in Brazil, for purchases done in local currency (BRL);
- For international flights operated by Air France or KLM;
- Valid only for tickets for trips originating in Brazil, where the first international flight is to Paris or Amsterdam.
In all other cases, your booking will be billed as a single payment. KLM can cancel or reject this payment method without prior notice.
E-wallet
An e-wallet can combine various payment options, such as your credit card and bank account. Please make sure you can pay the total amount with your e-wallet. Some e-wallets limit the amount you can pay at once. As soon as your e-wallet provider informs us that the payment has been made, you will receive your ticket via email.
Some leading e-wallets offered are PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, WeChat Pay, Alipay, and KakaoPay.
Please note that a payment surcharge may apply.
PayPal
PayPal's e-wallet allows you to pay for purchases online (not possible with American Express cards). You must have a PayPal account to use this payment method.
Online banking, or real-time online banking, lets you pay for your online purchases. We accept online banking payments through iDEAL | Wero, FPX, CUP, Nordea, Trustly, Pix and others.
- You pay via our payment partners, Worldline or Adyen, when using online banking.
- A payment surcharge may apply.
At some airports, you can pay at the Tickets Office. Please note: this is not possible at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Bring your booking confirmation or booking code you received by email. You must pay according to the instructions given in your booking confirmation email. If we do not receive the full payment on time, your ticket may arrive later than expected or your booking may be canceled. Please note that a booking fee and payment surcharge may apply.
Some airports, including Schiphol Airport or at other ticket offices, no longer accept cash. Please make sure you can pay with an internationally recognized debit or credit card.
You can redeem 1 or more vouchers issued by KLM and Air France to pay online for (part of) your booking. Any remaining voucher value will be credited to a new voucher.
- Vouchers are non-transferable and must be used for the passenger whose name is stated on the original voucher.
- You can redeem a voucher in My Trip to buy extra options, such as a more comfortable seat type, after booking your ticket.
- We accept vouchers issued by KLM and Air France.
- You can redeem a voucher issued in another currency than used for your booking.
- Each passenger may use up to 2 vouchers per booking with a limit of 3 vouchers per booking.
- A voucher is valid for 12 months from the date of issue.
Pay in another currency
We always display our prices in one currency. However, in many countries, you can choose another currency when paying with various credit cards and PayPal.
- When converting the local price to your preferred payment currency, we use an exchange rate that includes a market-based foreign exchange margin. We always aim to keep this margin lower than the margin your credit card issuing bank would have included had they converted the currency. However, KLM cannot be held liable for any differences in these rates.
- Suppose the payment currency you selected differs from the currency billed on your credit card statement. In that case, the bank issuing the card will convert the transaction using their rate. KLM cannot be held liable for this conversion.
- If your credit card account was issued in another country, the card issuing institution may add an ‘overseas charges’ or ‘cross-border charges’ fee. This depends on the country and bank. These fees are unrelated to exchange rates. Your bank may charge this fee regardless of the currency you select for payment at KLM. This is subject to the agreement between the bank and the cardholder. Consequently, KLM cannot be held liable for these fees.
